Exquisite Beaches of Nusa Penida

Situated just off the southwest coast of Bali, there are three smaller islands that form part of the popular Indonesian region. Among these islands, Nusa Penida stands out with its towering rocky cliffs, soft beaches, and turquoise waters. It is the most sought-after destination, ideal for adventurers looking to uncover hidden bays and awe-inspiring cliffs on a day trip, merely an hour’s boat ride from mainland Bali.

Crystal Bay Beach

Located in a sheltered cove on the west coast of Nusa Penida, Crystal Bay captivates visitors with its translucently clear blue water gently lapping onto the shore. This beautiful area earned its name from the remarkable clarity of the water. With a thriving reef, it is renowned as one of the best spots for snorkeling and diving. However, it’s important to note that the current can be quite strong here. Take a moment to relax and enjoy the incredible scenery while savoring a coconut from one of the small beach bungalows.

Kelingking Beach

Kelingking Beach on Nusa Penida is hailed as one of Bali’s finest and most famous beaches, characterized by its dramatic T-rex-shaped cliffside. The viewpoint, perched 200 meters high, offers a breathtaking sight of green-covered rocks and the beach below. If time permits, you can venture down a hiking path to reach the stunning beach adorned with enormous crashing waves. Swimming at the beach is not recommended due to the strong undercurrents, but simply unwinding and listening to the sound of the waves is an enriching experience. The Kelingking viewpoint is easily accessible by car or motorbike, attracting many visitors on a day tour from Bali or Nusa Lembongan, although most tend to stay at the top.

Diamond Beach

Diamond Beach, a picturesque stretch of pristine white sand, resembles a postcard-worthy destination. Nestled on the eastern tip of Nusa Penida, this untouched beach was previously admired from above, offering a view of the silky blue waters, palm trees, and limestone cliffs. Over the years, locals have carved a rock staircase, allowing visitors to descend all the way to the immaculate beach. The journey provides an opportunity to experience the beach’s untouched beauty up close.

Puyung Beach

Puyung Beach is among the hidden gems of the incredible island of Nusa Penida. Located just two bays away from the renowned Crystal Bay, this tranquil cove features calm waters, soft sand, and a rocky reef (remember to bring water shoes if you plan to swim). The beach remains relatively unknown to tourists, providing an almost private experience. To reach Puyung Beach, follow a path from Pasih Andus (Smoky Beach) through lush greenery and some farmland. This scenic route takes approximately 20 minutes and is best undertaken with the guidance of a local. Once there, immerse yourself in the breathtaking scenery of rugged Penida, gazing out over the glistening turquoise ocean.
