What You Should Know When You Swim on Bali’s Beaches

Bali’s beaches are not like any other place. The combinations of crystal clear, warm, blue Indian ocean, completed with white or black sand on the beach and sunny-clear-sky make the beaches the real temptation places to dip in. But you need to keep in mind that not all of the beaches in Bali are suitable for swimming activities. Because the tide and the currents are changing faster than you would know. In some places, the wave is stronger and higher than you can handle by yourself, even though you claim yourself as a good swimmer. It will suck and drag you to the water faster before you would realize it.

Some touristy places in the Canggu area, like Berawa Beach, Batu Bolong Beach, and Batu Belig Beach are not the best places for you to swim unless you want to challenge yourself with the strong beefy wave on those beaches. But still, it’s ill-advised to swim on those beaches. The wave and the tide are changing rapidly. One of our colleagues and his kids were almost drowned in Batu Belig Beach, because of the strong wave rolls and current. Even though there’s a lifeguard on patrol, it’s still the best option for you to just relax by the beach or bars nearby, looking at surfers in action.

It goes quite the same way for beaches in the Uluwatu area. For example, Padang Padang Beach is one of the famous laidback beaches after Eat, Pray, Love was in the theater. This beach is not only famous among the surfers, but also among people who are looking for a place to relax and dip in the water. On some days, this place is perfect for swimmers, because the cliff around the beach makes the wave slower and softer. Although in bad weather or in high season, the wave and the currents are strong and will drag you to the ocean. So, always keep in mind to check the nature condition before you decide to jump in the water, even though the water color is so inviting for you to take a jump and swim in it.
